i am in the process of going to windows xp home edition
and wanted to know how to uninstall windows 2000
professional since i cannot do the upgrade.

To do a clean install boot the Windows XP install CD-Rom. When you get to
the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions found. After you
delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again restart the pc booting
the CD-Rom to avoid unexpected drive letter assignments with your new
install.

During the install if booting from the XP CD, you should reach a part where
is asks the partition to install files to. During this screen you should be
able to delete current partition and create a new one. BEWARE! if you delete
the existing partition all files will be lost/gone. Backup any data files you
would like to keep!

The normal way to "uninstall" any operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Read Dave's post - you need to make sure the install can't see the old
partions when it starts
