A friend has Win200pro and wants to replace it with his
sold Windows 98 system because it currently runs too slow
really isn't necessaary for his home use anyway. When we
try to boot to a cd other than his win200pro disk it just
bypasses the first choice 'cd-rom boot' and boots to the
hard drive. I want to do a low level format to clean out
the entire disk and then install his 98 ops system. can
anyone offer me some advise. Am I going about this
wrong? We aren't concerned about saving anything on his
hard drive so drastic measures are fine!

To wipe the drive, some ways include; boot a win98 startup disk, run fdisk
and delete all partition information found (as long as NTFS is primary). Or
boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks and when you get to the point,
delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions found, then abort the
install. Or use a utility named delpart. Once removed you can partition and
format the drive as you wish.
