This may help a few out there with no DHCP address.

After uninstalling Norton AntiVirus Software on a Windows
XP machine, you may find they can no longer connect to
the internet. When checking IP address after uninstall it
will show as 0.0.0.0 and no Internet applications will be
able to connect.

This problem is caused by Norton setting itself up as a
dependency for the DHCP service to begin running. When
going into the Control Panel to "Administrative Tools"
and then "Services" DHCP may show up with a start up type
of "Automatic" but it will not be running. Trying to
start this service will yield the error:
"Could not start the DHCP Client Service on Local
Computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not
exist or has been marked for deletion."
Fixing this requires editing the Registry to remove the
dependency for DHCP start up (Unlike Win2k, Windows XP
does not have a Dependencies tab.) Instructions to do so
are as follows:
Click Start > Run.

Type "regedit" in the Run box, click OK.

Locate the following keys in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT

For each of the above, double-click the item
DependOnService.

Delete any references to SYMTDI or NISDRV.

Click File and Exit to save the changes and close the
Registry Editor.

The computer will need to be restarted before the changes
will take effect.
