I have a new HP Pavilion a1132n AMD 65 Athlon. I am running XP
home. Checked my uninstall files and found ALL had been deleted
except for the three new programs installed today. Tried RESTORE
but to no avail. They are gone.

Many installed pgms have their own installer (thank gawd), but
if I wish to uninstall others will probably have to install
first
and then uninstall.

Have other users come across this problem? Is it possible that
the latest Microsoft patch KB896424 may have triggered this
event. I uninstalled it as it was one of the last 3
installations.

This has never happened before to my knowledge and is quite a
puzzle.

Awaiting your comments...

Addenda to first message: Also downloaded KB890830 which is the
MS mischievous antibug pgm which is supposed to eliminate
nasties. Perhaps it went awry??? So many questions...but no
answers as yet.

Where have you checked for uninstall files?

In add or Remove Programs?

In every installed program folder?

A Search for uninstall?

Wesley: I checked HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/current
set/uninstall...as well as Add/Remove. The few that are left
show up in the Add/Remove as removable BUT the list of other
installed pgms contain only the list and some sizes but no
option to remove or repair.

Installed programs that include an uninstaller are okay but not
all pgms have uninstallers in their respective folders.

In my thirty years of computing have never had this happen. Can
get around this in time and the system still works okay
otherwise.

Kind of wondered about worms and other malicious crap but have
checked with everything in my arsenal. This problem showed up
after MS malicious bug remover was run from Microsoft Update and
considered maybe it went beserk.

Doug,

Some applications in Add/Remove Programs list are missing Change and Remove
buttons
http://www.winxptutor.com/arpbuttons.htm

You don't have the big white space in Add or Remove Programs do you?

Have you scrolled down to see if more programs are listed?

Add or Remove - White Space

[[This is generally due to the DisplayIcon having a negative number. From
here you can either remove the negative number or remove the last
application listed:
Start/Run/Regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{} ]]

Autodesk Land Desktop 3 Fix

Are you saying that
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
only lists a couple of programs?

=========================
Hi Wes: Only the last 3 programs that I installed showed up
here.

Today I re-installed a relatively small program (Belarc Advisor)
and the uninstaller did show up here tho'. Subsequent installs
should work normally, I would presume.

In the Add/Remove column a good many but not ALL installed pgms
show up with no white spaces between. For example...none of the
windows update KB files show up except one that I downloaded
today. I'm not too worried about them anyway as I rarely have to
remove them.

I will try some of your urls and also kellys-korner as per your
suggestion.

Thanks so far...Doug
