I have a router and broadband modem, uninstalled McAfee antivirus and firewall from my pc to install a new antivirus program from my internet provider (roadrunner). After the uninstall of firewall and the install of the new CA program my pc can't see the network, ipconfig comes up with no info. I can connect fine with another pc connected through the router so I think the uninstall of mcaffee firewall hosed something on my pc. Do you know of any windows component that I should replace that would fix this problem

ipconfig for my pc that can't see the network looks like this

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 169.254.249.21
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

ip config info from my other pc (the one that still works looks like this

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : columbus.rr.co
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.123.12
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.123.25

When I run ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew I get the following message
"An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

I found a couple of knowledge base topics that helped me fix the problem.... the main issue is to not use Add Remove Programs to uninstall McAfee Firewall.... rather use the uninstall utility that comes on the McAfee setup CD.... the problem is caused by messing up the registry entries for Winsock.

Thanks
