Using IE7 and XP Media Center. I am trying to remove a program (Mozy Remote
Backup) that I foolishly downloaded. It never worked and seems corrupted!
I recently had to perform a destrctive recovery because of another issue
(maybe caused by this progam) and thought I would never see this program
appear again in my directory, but there it is...TWICE in two different
locations...altho seemingly in incomplete form (files missing).

For some reason unknown to me this appears in my Program Files AND under my
C drive as well. It appears that not all the files are present. When I
click on the uninstall file I get a pop up saying that it does not exist!
Also when I click on this program's icon in C, I get a run-time error
message and can't remove it or even delete it.

It does not appear in my Add/Remove list in Control Panel.

How can I get rid of this program and all it's useless files for good? I
have limited technical knowledge so all step-by-step help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Fran

Boot the machine in Safe Mode, then delete all folders and shortcuts
that pertain to this program.

One technique is to reinstall the program, then uninstall it using
Add/Remove programs. Another option, is to contact the program vendor for
info on how to remove it. They often times provide a FAQ or an uninstall
utility.

It's hard to understand how it could still be there after a destructive
recovery. That normally involves restoring an image of the drive as it was
received from the factory. And there should be no way that program is
there. Did you do the recovery properly or perhaps there is also a non
destructive recovery option and you inadvertently chose that?

Have you contacted the computer tech support for how to do a destructive
recovery properly?

Yes, I was led thru the destructive recovery by an HP tech person. I do not
know how it can still appear! I have contacted the vendor...awaiting a
reply.
Thanks for your help.

That is strange. If you can post back with the outcome.

You need to be a lot more specific. Remember that
we cannot see your screen, hence you must supply
full details of your actions, e.g.

- What exactly did you try to delete?
- What was the message you got?

Without these details it's pure guesswork!

No doubt. Such programmes are moreover spywares and reside on the system at
their own will. The only way to remove them is hard or manual removal from
the drive. For this, you need to delete all the files pertaining to that
programme simply by shift delete and then removing the entries from the
registry as well. Run a system scan for any left-offs using Tun-Up utilities
software or something similar to that. Tun-Up software is a good software in
order to search and scan for such junk files that reside in your
system, registry etc. Finally, clean them through Tun-Up and your system will
be all set. I regulalry use Tun-Up to keep my system in a clean and healthy
shape. Best of luck.
