I had to re-install xp and now when I turn my computer on
before the welcome page there are 2 xp's listed and I
have to choose which one I want to load (only the 1st one
works..the second one has missing files so it won't
load). How do I uninstall the second one?. Also my
internet explorer will only show some web pages without
the page cannot be displayed error. I'm sooooo lost
here!. Thank you in advance to anyone that can help me.
Dell wants 100.00 for help and I just don't have it!.

I have two installations of XP on the same partition

I tried doing what you said, when I checked the command
prompt it just said the 1 i'm useing is in c:windows but
when I went to my computer and into C there is only 1
listed so I couldn't delete it ( I'm not real computer
literate as you can probably tell) am I missing something
here?..Thank you.

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not correct the issue, then:

Right-click on MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry.
Your boot.ini file should then look similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
