Uninstall Files

I recently came across a large number of files in the Windows folders that I
am curious as to their purpose. The files basically all read
$NtUninstallKBXXXX$. They are highlighted in blue.

Can these be deleted?

Those folders contain the files necessary to uninstall Windows
hotfixes and updates. If you are sure that you will not need to
remove the
update, you can delete the folder. It's usually a good idea to
wait a few weeks after the update is installed before you
delete the uninstall folder.

Do not delete the $hf_mig$ folder. Windows uses that folder
whenever a new update is installed.

Once you delete the folders, go to Control Panel and open
Add/Remove Programs. Make sure there's a check mark in the box
next to "Show updates". Scroll down till you come to the
"Windows XP Software Updates" section. Click on the individual
updates. If you've deleted the uninstall folder you should see
an error message. Click OK and the item will be removed from
the list.
