I recently discovered in the My Documents folder about 1350 files with the
names starting at CAAOO.IDX through to STUC.IDX. They all have a file
extension of .IDX.
My files are scattered throughout them.

I'd like to know how they got there and how to get rid of them. I'm
reluctant to just delete them without knowing what they are.

Thank you

Hi,

I believe they are AOL temporary mail files. Delete them from a command
prompt using "del *.idx"once you are in that directory.

Click start/run, type cmd and click ok. Run:

CD\Documents and settings\<username>\My documents
del *.idx

Hi, thanks for that. I don't know if they are AOL files, I certainly have
never used or run anything connected with AOL mail that I know of. However, I
deleted them after saving to a temp folder just in case and so far so good.

PS. With a name like "Nutcase" I thought twice about it though!

Thanks again
