Does and when does Microsoft intend to extend unicode support to IMAP email
accounts? I am please that MS Exchange has been endowed with this feature by
default, yet my organisation uses IMAP heavily and so far have been using OE
rather than Oultook since IMAP folders are placed in non-unicode data files.

There's a registry setting that can tell Outlook to create ALL PSTs as
Unicode PSTs. See

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the helpful comment.
This is all new to me. I downloaded the appropriate ork.exe file. I
installed and when through the Maintenance Wizard and only changed the new
PST format option to "enforce Unicode PST".
However, I was not sure if I chose the correct MSI file, or if I did the
correct sequence of things.
I am a newbie to all this, and if there is a step-by-step guide to help me
through I would be grateful. I hesitate to use the maintenance file I created
without being sure of its safety.

regards
Firas.

Hi Brian,

I read thoroughly through the link you sent.
Further down the dialogue thread it becomes apparant that "After performing
further research on the IMAP and Unicode, I would like to let you know that
IMAP and HTTP do not support Unicode".
So MS's official stance is that IMAP is not compatible with Unicode.

That is a pity.

Yes. I had not read the entire original post in some time, but remembered
that it had existed, so used Google Groups to find it.
