Is this scanner service legit and/or has anyone used it? The results showed
that I have 5 out-of-date drivers and I am questioning if it is ok to
download the current drivers.
If you're going to screw around with drivers unnecessarily, remember
there is a "driver rollback" feature in Device Manager. It can
undo the last change you make.
There is little reason to be changing drivers. It is not
like "shining your shoes". Old, musty drivers can function
for years, especially if the development phase at the
hardware maker is finished, and they aren't really
making changes to the driver any more.
On my current system, I installed the drivers on day one, and
haven't thought about them since. Does that make me a
"bad computer owner" ? My computer seems to work fine.
Even Microsoft has their own sense of humor. They offer
hardware drivers, as part of Windows Update. If you haven't
heard it already, *don't* take drivers from Windows Update.
The drivers there, are like they're from outer space,
and seem to bear no resemblance to the regular development
stream for drivers. If you want drivers, they should come
from the manufacturer.
Like so many "shoe shining services" offered by web sites,
this is one more of them you can ignore.
