Hi,

every time I start my computer two items are installed. I can't tell what they are, it happens too quickly. Do you have any ideas about how to find out what they are and maybe stop it from happening?

Thanks for your help,
Stephen

As you noticed, it can be hard to tell! But my experience is that most
likely it is spyware re-installing something, probably popup adware, on
every boot. Go get Ad-aware6, Spybot Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster, and
SpywareGuard. Install them, update them, activate all their default mode
protections, reboot, run them, let them get rid of anything they find. I bet
this fixes your problem. Read all their Helps on how to better configure
them later. Tell us if that gets rid of your mysterious installations or
not. Make sure your antivirus is up to date and run it. If it is an expired
subscription antivirus then get a new subscription or uninstall it and go
get freeware AVG from grisoft.com (you will need to receive 2 emails from
them before you can activate AVG). With Spybot, temporarily go into Advanced
mode, go to Tools, then select Settings, and turn off the option to set a
restore point (set one yourself if you want, if you do not turn off its
option to set a restore point then Spybot will hang if run while System
Restore is disabled). Antivirus can not remove virus from the System
Restore area, so turn it off and then back on to clear the System Restore
files and to set a new restore point. Turn on the built-in XP firewall,
and/or install ZoneAlarm. Good luck!
