Unexplained Continuous HD activity

I have XP with SP2

I get long periods of almost continuous disk activity when
I'm doing nothing to cause it.

When I look at processes nothing out of the ordinary appears
to be running and system idle stays in the high 90s.

Any thoughts?

indexing service ? check HD properties

Get Filemon from www.sysinternals.com (freeware) and it will show you what
files are being accessed and by what process.
