I have a file saved in PPT 2000. THe file lists as a 9MB
file size and when I try to email it, it will nto go
through to the recipient.

I was trying to break the presentation file up into
smaller pieces to email them separately and I noticed
something strange.

If I delete all the slides in the pres except for a
single, all text slide, and then delete the slide master
as well, removing all logos so im left with an plain text
slide, it still shows as a 4.5MB file!

Something strange is adding immense size to this file
making it impossible for me to transfer and I cant figure
out what it could be.

HELP please!

Relax - It is probably one of a number of known things. Start with the
advice on this PPT FAQ page:

Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?

(In fact - start with the easy first - Go to Tools --> Options, Save tab and
un-check "Fast Saves")

I tried them all and it didnt work. I will try the Fast
Save thing again but I tried it once. Thanks for the
suggestion...

Whats strange is that I can delete every slide in the
entire file except one and still have a 4.5MB file...

Anything else?

Always have ideas :) Will they work? Well, let's see...

When you turned off fast saves, did you re-save under a new name?

Another thought - Open a brand new, empty presentation. Now, use Insert -->
Slides--> From file and add the slides from the huge file, then save that
under a new name. When you do that, what size is the file?

Also, did you look at all the masters and see if there was anything big on
one of them? What about zooming out on the slide view and flipping through
the slides - does that show anything that could be deleted?

Wow! I did the Zoom Out and started tabbing.

I noticed that at the end of all the objects there was a
tab that wasnt showing anything associated with it. I hit
delete and saved and bingo! The file size is half!

You are a super-sleuth! Any ideas what that hidden thing
can be?

Thanks so much!

That hidden thing could have been any of a number of things, best to not
worry about it unless other presentations start having the same problems.

Glad you were able to find the problem. Happy to help anytime I can :)

Karen (or anyone else with a thought on this):

Last night I thought I had this problem licked. Following
your instructions, I found a hidden object in the Slide
Master and deleted it recuding the file size by half.

However I still cannot get this file to successfully go
through the email. Within my office and our exchange
server I was able to receive the file by email but when I
try to send it to a third party, it just wont go through.

Its not his email I dont think since I have sent several
other PPTs with success - just this one (which is now down
to 4.5MB) is posing a problem.

Any other suggestions?

That one is a different problem. Many people have a 5M or less. By the time
you add the message wrapper, your message is probably way too big. You may
not be able to email the presentation :(

It's an embedded OLE object - probably a presentation. You can see what it is by tabbing through to select it and then going Edit>Object...

Bloody annoying
