unending update

On my new laptop (XP Pro SP2), I am getting a "Windows Found Update" message,
and, of course, I install the update (MSXM4.0 SP2) and Windows tells me that
the update was successfully installed. The next time I boot up, there is the
update again - waiting to be installed - and again - and again - and again --
never ending - no matter how many times I install it. Now, I find in my C
Drive a ton of Text Document files with long cryptic names which are full of
many, many action/command lines of text. I think these files may be result
of this unending installation of MSXM4.0 SP2. Does anyone know what is going
on here? I have the text of one of the files copied and I could send it, if
anyone wished to read the text.

Yes, those are the log files for the installations. For some reason they
are not being deleted at the completion. You can delete them. As to why it
keeps on repeating this install, I suggest you look through the posts in and
if needed submit your question to the experts in the windows update
newsgroup.
