My son was playing with the computer and somehow did a complete system
recovery. I lost all of my files, pictures, etc. Is there anyway to undo it
or at least get them back? I have a compaq computer we just bought it a year
ago, not even that. I really need some of those files. Is there anything I
can do? My son is not allowed on the computer until I get them back. Thanks
for the help.

First thing, stop using the computer. The more the system is used, the less
is the chance files can be recovered. From another computer download some
of the these file recovery tools and see what they can find.

If that doesn't work then another option is to send the drive to a data
recovery specialist such as:
www.drivesavers.com
www.ontrack.com
http://services.seagate.com/

Those services are very expensive, only you can determine how much the data
is worth.

Not to jam you now that this has happened, but you have to consider why was
there not a full and complete backup of important files? One should always
have that. Data loss is an issue of when not if. A drive imaging program
such as Acronis True Image Home version 10 or Norton Ghost, creating images
to an external, USB connected hard drive is low cost insurance for most
disasters.
