Hi there,
Indeed, whenever I reboot or log-off/log-in again into my personal
XP account (with my password), it states: "1 unread mail message".
But when I check "all the way" my OE, no such unread message can
be located, and also no such icon appearing in my system tray!!
So could pls someone tell me where I can reset this counter to zero?
Thank you very much in advance for your valid advice(s)...
With best "Happy New Year" regards, Philippe.

"PS" (in order to clarify further):
This "message" appears under my "User name" icon; ie.
PRIOR of keying my password and performing a log-in...

Hello Philippe ,
You've probably read it, this notification happens a lot apparently.

You can remove the notification via a registry edit:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\<your
e-mail address>
Double click Message Count in the right hand pane and change the value to 0
(zero).

If you're not happy messing about with the registry, download Tweak UI from
Microsoft .

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Once installed, open and expand 'Logon', click on 'Unread Mail' and uncheck
'Show unread mail on welcome screen' then 'Apply' and exit

Hope this helps.

Colin.

Dear Colin,
Yep, that surely solved my problem (by performing now this
manual registry-reset as described by you); so thanks a lot!!
With very best regards from Switzerland,
Philippe

Hello Coliboy,
I am having same problem. OS is windows xp pro. In my users account, it
shows I am having one unread mail message. Followed your direction and
set the value of message to 0 from 1. But it again reverts back to 1 after
closing the regdit. I have an administrative account but there the message
count shows the value as 0.
Further I cannot log into safe mode for going to default administrators
account. Earlier I could go to safe mode but now when I press f8 it gives
me option to click Removable Dev, Hard Drive and ATAPI CD-ROM.
when I click any of them window starts up.
