I now seemed to have solved the problem of the icons (Poker Travel
Bingo Card Games Printer Cartridges etc)

Went through all the lines in MSCONFIG and found that the responsible
script was as follows

Start up item - Corn Wave
Command - C:\Documents and Settings\all users\application data\mpeg
flap deaf road\corn wave.exe
Location - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\run

I then deleted folder \mpeg flap deaf road\ and the Corn Wave.exe

This (touch wood) has got rid of the icons

However see below for posting that suggests that the directory and
..exe could be called something else.

Earlier today, one of my two teenagers somehow installed something
that put
up the following seven new icons on my desktop. - Website Hosting,
Bingo,
Casino Online, Printer Cartridges, Card Games, Poker and Travel

They weren't deletable and came back whenever I re-booted.

Ad-Aware and Spybot didn't find anything.

After experimenting with msconfig, I found that they were caused by
the
following in the startup script

c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\grid ref that
face\magstray.exe

I have now disabled this line in the startup script and deleted the
"grid
ref that face" folder and this seems to fix the problem.

However, I can't find anything about this on the internet, e.g. google
can't
find anything when I search for magstray, magstray.exe or "grid ref
that
face". So does anyone know anything about this.

Also, how do I get rid of that line from the startup script. Its still
there, but disabled.

start>run and type

regedit

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

** Messy with the Registry could rendered the computer bootless, always
backup the registry prior to modifications.***
