undeletable folers

I have a group of 5 empty folders that appeared on my desktop that I
cannot delete.When trying to delete them I get a message that says
"cannot delete-cannot read from source file or disk".I've tried
renaming,moving and everything else I can think of but cannot get rid
of these folders.I am running XP Home.Any suggestions that may work
are appreciated.Thanks Mark

Mark: try creating a file in the offending folder, then deleting. sounds nuts, but after similar frustrating attempts to remove a string of empty folders ( my error msg was 'cannot delete <folder>, <folder> not empty' even tho it was), including multiple attempts to change attributes and the use of DOS commands [ rmdir & erase ], i created an empty file in the offending folder and wala, the subsequent delete removed the entire string of folders!
