I am upgrading our Windows 2000 systems to XP Pro using the unattended
setup. I am however experiencing a problem with some of the clients not
finding their NIC cards after the upgrades complete. I think it has
something to do with the Dynamic Updates part of the installation and the
proper drivers being downloaded for some clients and not for others. The
clients are all identical hardware wise and the drivers in question are for
the Intel Pro 100 VE network adapters.

any ideas??

thanks

Paolo:

I've had a similar issue when I was doing something similar with
unattended installs. In my case, I was providing a newer version of
the Intel NIC driver for my network card as part of the unattended
setup. What was happening was that System File Checker was called
either just before or after the post-setup reboot and was modifying the
driver file (which has the same filename in the current config as the
useless stub driver that shipped with the OS), and backrevving it to a
useless version. You could be seeing a spotty version of a similar
problem, say, if systems can't connect to a server that verifies the new
drivers as Win-certified.

Just a thought here.

How were you able to get around it? I am upgrading 200+ systems and the
majority of our systems use these network cards.

Thanks
