I am running IE6 on WinXP Home.

I used to be able to view Chinese websites without the need to activate any
Chinese software. After I reformatted my pc, I cant view Chinese anymore.
What is wrong here?

Pls help.

Thanks.

You formatted and reinstalled.
Did you install the language packs for Internet Explorer?

1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

2. In the left pane, under Other Options, click Personalize Windows Update,
select the Windows Update Catalog under See Also check box, and then click
Save Settings. A selection named Windows Update Catalog will appear under
See Also.
3. Click Windows Update Catalog.
4. Click Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems.
5. Select the appropriate operating system version for your system, and then
click Advanced search options.
6. Select the Multi-Language Features check box. Click to clear the other
check boxes, and then click Search.
7. In the search results, click to expand Multi-Language Features(xx).
8. Click Add to select the appropriate updates for the version of Internet
Explorer that you have. For additional information about determining which
version of Internet Explorer you have, view this article in the Microsoft
Knowledge Base:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=164539

9. Click Go to Download Basket.
10. Enter a location to save the download (or click Browse to specify the
location).
11. Click Download Now.
12. Click Accept on the license window.

Good Luck!

Hi Shenan,

Thanks for the reply. I am able to go as far till the step to select
Microsoft Windows operating system. However, I do not know which version to
select. From 'My Computer', it only says that I'm running on Windows XP,
Home Edition, Version 2002.

Pls help.

Thanks.

I've been browsing around to find an answer concerning language packs
and this is the closest to my question I've found. You seem to be
very knowledgeable - so.. maybe you wont mind helping me out! My
question is this: I installed a language pack for Japanese while
browsing a site and I'm now wondering how I can uninstall that pack.
I tried the conventional methods and also went to the Windows Update
section you specified, but it does not show that I have any
installed. Is there another way to uninstall the pack. or maybe I
entered the wrong version of Windows XP in the drop down menu? Thanks
so much for any help!! ( I know it's not the most important issue, I
just like the abilitly to uninstall things as easily as I'm able to
install) - hehe..

Hmm. Good one. Try this:

Go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages tab
Uncheck "Install files for East Asian languages" and "Install files for
complex script and.."
Click OK to any warnings.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

Cannot promise that is it, but I *think* it is - come back and let me know!
