Unable to type text in text fields

I am unable to select text boxes on all internet explorer text fields
(eg google, usernames, passwords). When I click on it it freezes the
window, and 20-30 seconds later, goes back to the normal internet
screen, not in the text field. Also when I click help>about, i got a
error 96 unspecified error. I have Norton Internet Securirty and this
also just displays security and states a runtime error. Firefox works
OK, nothing wrong with it, its just internet explorer. tried a system
restore but cant do this either due to runtime error! I have searched
google and several posts have been created saying to type regsvr32 and
certain dll files in start>run. I have tried this, no luck. I have also
tried downloading microsoft windows script editor 5.6 as I have been
told it could be this, but this also doesnt work. Anybody know how to
fix this?

Try microsoft.internetexplorer.public?

Is this happening in all the user accounts? Incorrect registry permissions
can sometimes cause this. Best way to test is to login as built-in
Administrator and observe.
