I was trying to add a new SATA drive to my system. I wasted to replace the
existing IDE drive that my "C" drive was on. This drive has three logical
drives on it (C, D and E). I deceided to use Norton Ghost 2003 to clone the
IDE drive onto the SATA drive. When I ran this process in Windows you
identify the source and target drives and then a dos process is to start
which does the actual cloning process. The first step is to restart the
system is the dos mode. When this step started I get a message "Starting PC
DOS...". The system hung at this step and now I can't boot the system as
normal, boot into safe mode, boot from a diskett or from a CD. Does anyone
have any idea 1. how I can get the system to boot? 2. How I can get rid of
the pending clone process once I can get into the system?

I don't have any idea what the process name is or where it might be! Any
help will be greatly appreciated.

First thing to do is ask the folks at Norton for help.

Be aware that there is no real-mode DOS in XP so I'm not sure how Norton
Ghost expected your system to be able to boot into DOS.

Jerry,

Thanks for the answer. I have tried to get an answer from Symantec and
after waiting for almost three hours and another hour on-line with them I am
convenced that I know more about the problem than they do. I don't know that
much but the don't know anything. I have never had Symantec/Norton software
that hasn't given me some type of problem! I have been working with PC's
since they first can out and this is the first time I have ever had this type
of problem where I have a big usless box until I get this problem fixed.

I should have known better than to install ANYTHING with Symantec on the
lable on one of my computers. I can tell you this I will NEVER buy or use
anything that they sell again. There support stinks and their support staff
has know idea wat you are trying to tell them.

If you have any other idea on how to fix the problem I am all ears.

Thanks, Atlanta Craig
