lsass.exe - System Error

When trying to update a password, the return status
indicates the value provided as the current password is
not correct.

When trying to start windows this error appears for 5
seconds then the computer restarts.

I am unable to start windows.

This problem occurred when "Automatic Update" downloaded
a Windows security update the other day. When windows
restarted a message stated "the file windows\system32
\config\system was missing or corrupt." I inserted the
OPERATING SYSTEM CD that came with the computer, and ran
the recovery console, I saved the "corrupted" system file
and replaced the file with the windows\repair\system

After restart, this error now occurs:

lsass.exe - System Error

When trying to update a password, the return status
indicates the value provided as the current password is
not correct.

How do I get past this and into windows again.

James,

This is a wrong news group for this type of questions.

Try: microsoft.public.windowxp.general
