Hi everybody,

I installed XP SP2 last week and often, after working a
day long, my machine doesn't like to shut down anymore.
Sometimes also outlook.exe doesn't leave TaskManager's
list. But my main problem is that I'm no more able to
shutdown.

I also tried to uninstall XP2. After a while, it hung up.

I use Microsoft Office 2000, IE6 and some small programs.
Hardware is a Compaq Evo N400c Notebook.

Any experiences like that?

so did it uninstall any part of XP SP2 or it never got to the progress bar
removing files etc.?
better reinstall XP SP2 (over the existing one, seems to allow it OK) to be
sure you didn't get any stuff removed

to shutdown or log off, hold down "CTRL" key when pressing logout or
shutdown button at the dialog with the suspend/shutdown/etc. buttons

this will force exit any apps that refuse to stop

what antivirus do you use? it might be that. Also, try Shift+ESC (task
manager) and start killing processes to see how many remain that you can't
kill any more and the suspect should be one of those (some you can't kill
anyway, they're system ones, plus don't kill "lsass" else you may get a
reboot counter and restart)
