Unable to See Printers or Run Add a Printer

I have have a new notebook with XP Pro. Initially I added
two printers. Since then I've added a tremendous amount
of software, making it impossible to trace this problem
to a single event.

Currently when I go to the Printers and Faxes window,
neither of the printers show up as present. However, they
do work if I try to print.

If I hit the Add a printer command, nothing happens. The
program to add a printer doesn't run.
 
You need to clean out the \windows\ directory when other applications place
system files there. I am not sure it this will impact the application
workings.

try sfc /scannow first. If that does not help follow the KB steps.
printui, setupapi, wsnmp are the primary culprits I have seen in the past.
