John

I have outlook express 6 installed on Windows XP OS.
When we last accessed our inbox, which had several read
items along with five new messages, outlook froze (was
hanging). I tried to close the application with task
manager and was unsuccessful. I tried to do a restart
and, again, was unsuccessful. I eventually had to power
off my pc. When I restarted, I had no items in my
inbox. Please help, I had crucial information contained
in this folder. Appreciate any insight.

Hi John,
I am not a pro with this but I just did it so hopefully I
can help you. You can try to import your old mail files.
They should all be saved in a folder on your computer.
First you need to determine where your store folder is. In
Outlook Express go to "tools", "options". Click on
the "maintenance" tab. About 3/4 of the way down click
on "store folder" This will show you where your folder
is. You can copy the path if you like, just make sure you
scroll all the way to the right because it's long. After
you do that, close the options box and go to "file",
then "Import->mail messages". Click on Microsoft Outlook
Express 6 and then click next. Click "Import mail from an
OE6 store directory and click OK. If the path is listed
on next screen click "Next" and follow directions after
the **** in caps below.
If the path is blank, click "browse". I will tell you
where my folder is, hopefully yours will be in the same
place. Double click "C drive" or whatever your letter is.
Go to "Windows", "Application data", "Identities", and
click on the + next to your "store folder", click
on "microsoft" and click on "Outlook Express" then click
OK. Next screen, just click Next.
********PICK "ALL FOLDERS" OR WHATEVER FOLDER HAS WHAT YOU
WANT TO IMPORT AND CLICK "NEXT" This should import your
mail for you. Hope this helps!
Debbie
