ANOTHER IDIOT

Hi guys, i need help to put on the password protection
when i boot up my computer. For some reason when i boot
up it goes straight to my desktop. I'm using windows XP
pro and im stumped. THANKS!

Go to Control Panel, User Accounts and assign a password for your account. If that doesn't solve your issue, click Start, Run and enter CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 Check the box, Users must enter a username and password.............

What if I have several user accounts set up? I am administrator, but have 2 kids as users. I want to be able to prevent them from even getting past the screen saver/welcome screen. Must I set passwords on all 3 of the accounts separately? thanks

As long as they have accounts, that are valid, they can log on to the computer. If you're running XP Pro, you can go to Start, Run and enter LUSRMGR.MSC Open the Users folder, then double click the appropriate user name and disable the account. This prevents the user from logging on.

For XP Home, you can hide users on the Welcome Screen. See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Fixes, Hide User's on the Welcome Screen.

You can also use a boot password by entering "setup" (hitting [F2]
during boot on my computer running XP Pro), then navigating to the
system (boot) password and setting one up. You'll need to establish a
"setup" password as well, or your kids will be able to just do what you
did and get rid of the system password.

Hope this helps!
