Unable to restore archive.pst

Running Outlook 2003 and Windows XP...

An archive.pst was created and backed up to a CD. Recently tried to restore
messages from the archive.pst backup in each of the following ways:

- File/Open in Outlook
- Import and Export in Outlook
- Tried replacing existing archive.pst with the old archive.pst from the CD
backup

All ways I've tried indicate that the file is not a "Personal Folder File
(.pst)". I DID uncheck the "read-only" check box in the file properties.

Any suggestions for me? Anyone? Anyone?

I copied it to C drive from the beginning. I never attempted to import or
open the file direct from the CD. Any other suggestions? Thanks,

Was Outlook active on the system where the Archive was created when the
archive PST was copied?
 
If you mean was the Outlook program open, yes, most likely. I don't remember
for sure.

If Outlook was open when you copied the archive PST, then it's likely the
PST is corrupt. You cannot copy an open PST reliably.
