Unable to reply or forward in Outlook XP

I am currently running Outlook 2002 with XP SP2. All of the latest patches
for both. Internet connection and account tested and verified.

When I use reply or forward to send email, Outlook will sometimes hang (hour
glass forever). In order to get out I have to use task manager to stop
Outlook. Of course by doing this the email is lost and has to be retyped. I
never have this problem when creating a new email from scratch.

There have been a number of post on this but I have yet to find one that
actually had a fix.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using Word or Outlook as the e-mail editor? Does it make a
difference if you switch editor?

I am using Outlook as the e-mail editor. I believe that I have already tried
switching it to Word and I don't think that it made a difference so I
switched back to Outlook.

Disable your virusscanner and/or Office/Outlook integration of your
virusscanner and see if it still occurs. If not you'll know that the
virusscanner is your issue.

I have disabled Norton Antivirus. This has not changed the symptoms. Would
having two instances of Outlook running cause this problem.

Running the outlook.exe process more than once is not supported. Do things
work for you when you run Outlook in safe mode? Start-> Run; "path to
outlook.exe" /safe

I didn't think that it was supported, however because numerous family
members use the machine there have been instances when it gets run twice
(just noticed this and have told them not to). I am trying to determine if
this is when the problem occurs.

I have not tried running in safe mode but will keep that in reserve for the
next few days to monitor the two occurance issue.

Will keep posting upates.

Thanks,

Peter

I believe that the multiple occurrances of outlook running may have been the
problem. We have not experienced the lockup problem since everyone started
making sure that outlook wasn't already running.

Thanks for you help.
