I'm attempting to remove a printer driver no longer
required and I get "Unable to remove HP LaserJet 4000
Series PCL 6 , Intel , Windows 2000 or XP driver. The
specified driver is in use". I removed the printer icon
and there is no printer activity. Does anyone know how I
can remove this driver?

You will not be able to completely remove the driver
because the Spooler service has hold of it.

Stop the spooler service and then try and delete the
driver.

If this still does not work then you will need to reboot
your pc and log on as local admin account - then again
stop the spooler service and then delete the driver.

This should work.

I logged in as Admin, stopped the spooler, tried to remove
under Server Properties and got an error:
"Server properties unavailable - spooler not running"
Is there another way to delete the driver?
Thanks.

If any other printer on the network is also using that driver, you must
uninstall the driver from ALL the other printers on the network before you
can regain 'control' of it to uninstall it. Or disconnect the PC in
question from the network!

Network printers on a client that are added using the Add Printer Wizard are
specific to a user. If another user has logged on at the computer and added
a printer using the same driver, you probably won't be able to remove the
driver until that user account deletes the printer.

This is one reason that I favour using the "global" add printer method as
described in http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/NetPrinterAllUsers.htm.

You may be able to delete the printer driver using steps 7 through 13 at
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm.
