Have Office XP and did the MS Office XP Updates and now I cannot open any Excel files I have created. Did a MS Office XP Updates put a security block on my old files? Purchased a DELL with Windows XP Home and Office XP factory install. DELL sent OEM Office XP Standard CD. When MS Office XP Update called for original CD I inserted the DELL OEM disk from DELL. Has the MS Office XP Update and the DELL OEM CD with the factory load of Office XP create a bad update?? Any new file created and saved still gets the "unable to open file" error message along with any older files I try to open. SAME WITH WORD. I can import old data into a new worksheet and update and save/print but when I close and try to reopen new file get "unableto open file". Any help appreciated from the MS world. Is this a new data security setting??
DougH solved his problem thanks to John Waldron post on KB 329820. My system had Norton Anti-Virus 2002 and Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition loaded. Uninstalled Norton 2002 and everything started working again. Looked at configuration of NAV Corporate Edition and checked for configuration of Office. Everything working - Thanks to John Waldron post - Note: Microsoft should publish KB 329820 more widely.
