When I open some word documents, and go to print The blue border around the document starts flashing and I am unable to print and close out the document. At this pooint I cannot even close the document, I have to "control alt delete" to close it. Any ideas?

Flashing of this type is usually an indication that a dialog box requiring
input is open and hidden behind the application. Minimizing the foreground
application should enable you to see the box. Why is this happening? It is
probably caused by an errant add-in. The usual suspects are the Works add-in
(if your copy is part of the Works suite) and the Norton AV office plug-in.
Uninstall the former and disable the latter from Norton AV.

If you have Norton AntiVirus, disable its Office Plug-in.

How do I disable the "Office plug-in"? We Have NOrton but I do not see where to disable the Office plug in.

Not important at all provided you leave Auto-Protect enabled. No one,
including Symantec, seems to know what it does.

I believe it provides for scanning password protected/encrypted documents which may not be caught by the auto-protect layer.

Basically the Office Plug-in scans the document after it is unencrypted but before the document actually opens.

Since I don't encrypt or password-protect docs, that is not an issue for me,
but thanks for the additional information.

I leave the plug-in disabled since it causes so many problems but if I
were to encounter a password protected document I didn't create I
would exit Word, enable the plug-in, restart Word, and then open it
just in case. <g>

All documents I receive from others (even you) I explicitly scan with NAV
before opening, then open with the Shift key depressed just in case. Only my
own documents do I open without these precautions.
