In PP 2003 when I attempt to use the "Slide Design, Use a Design Template,
Available for Use," I only have two shown that are available. Also, those
two are not available as the slide tool is grayed out. Just how do I go
about having all the designs (colored as well as white) shown and available
for my choice? Is it necessary to re-install 2003 Power Point?

Hello Lee,

At the bottom of the Slide Design window is a Browse link to search for
slide designs or you can click on the box labeled "Design Templates on
Microsoft Office Online" if you have a network connection.

If you did a custom install of PowerPoint /Office, maybe you didn't install the
templates? You can go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Select Microsoft
Office 2003 and click on Change. Follow the dialog and look for a box that
gives you the option to "Choose advanced cutomization of applications". Check
the box and click Next. Then look for PowerPoint in the next dialog. Click on
"+" signs to expand the lists until you see Design Templates. The icon
displayed should indicate "Run from my computer" (click on the icon to see the
legend).

If that's not the issue, maybe you moved the templates. Open a blank
presentation and go to View > Master > Slide Master. Then go to File > Save as.
You're not really going to save the file, but you want to see where PowerPoint
plans to save it. Click on the arrowhead next to the "Save in:" box and you
will see the full path where PowerPoint looks for templates and saves templates.
Jot down the path and exit the dialog without saving. If you have moved the
templates, move them back to the indicated folder in the path that you jotted
down.

That usually works for me too. However, on my system I have PowerPoint 97,
2000, 2002 and 2003 but only Word 2003. PowerPoint 97 saves templates in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 97\Templates.
