Unable to open PST

I have tried numerous ways of trying to open a PST folder, after changes were made to our network, to no avail. When I try to open the file, I get the following error message The file C:\Documents and Settings\JJ\Desktop\JJ.pst is not a personal folders file. I have also made a copy of the file and run "scanpst.exe", but of course the files that I am really needing are non-existant.

I would appreciate any advise!

What do you mean by this;
"but of course the files that I am really needing are non-existant"

And what changes were made to the network?

A 284MB pst-file doesn't have to contain 284MB of mail info because of
unused space in the pst-file (when you delete a message the free space isn't
directly returned to the file system but is kept with the pst-file).

You can use the following tool and see if it can recover more than the
pst-file can;

Thanks so much for the assistance, but I have tried this one already.

I found something most peculiar this morning though, I did a search on
folders containing the subject that I was looking for and a great deal of
info appeared. So I am feeling a lot more comfortable, but I still can't
understand why I can't get the Pst to open.

Thanks again.

I thought you were already able to open it after you ran scanpst.exe against
the file?
