unable to open .pst file

i copied a .pst file from outlook 2000 to cd-rom to provide a backup.
the original inbox entries were subsequently lost on the computer, so
need to access the cd. the cd has 512 Mb of data on it from the .pst

since apparently one cannot directly open a cd into outlook (because i
is read only), i went to an old computer, copied the .pst into a tem
folder on c: drive. then unchecked the read-only and archiv
attributes in file-properties.

now, i cannot open the .pst into outlook 2000 on the old computer.

i tried file-open and clicked on the .pst and nothing changed, ie, th
pre-existing .pst continued to be the active inbox, not the .pst fro
the cd.

then i created a new profile called outlook2 and tried to import th
.pst into this profile. it was going ok, until near the end of the 1/
hour long import, i got an error message saying that import failed.

please help me access this .pst this really should not be thi
difficult. any suggestions will be appreciated. a prompt reply wil
be appreciated. tx and brgds

It won't be the default unless you tell it to be so. If you were at least
able to open the PST file in this mail profile, that indicates that the file
is good.
then i created a new profile called outlook2 and tried to import the
pst into this profile. it was going ok, until near the end of the 1/2

If you don't care about the default PST file in your original mail profile,
close Outlook, find that file (search for *.pst) and rename it or delete it.
Then open Outlook and when it complains it can't find the PST file, point it
at the correct one.
