Unable to open GIF extensions in XP

I am unable to open GIF extensions pics in Windows XP, I
just get the red X. Any ideas???

find another GIF on a website, u might have a
damaged/invalid file, -
http://communities.microsoft.com/Newsgroups/ICP/windowsxp/U
S/images/ms-banner.gif - copy and paste this into IE, then
right click on the images and choose save picture as. now
try to open it in XP

Thanks, I must have damaged files, I could open that
