I am having a problem opening attachments with windows mail and it seems like
I am not the only one. Has anyone figure it out yet? Pls help

this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. create an association in the set association control panel. how do
you do this?

Start - Default Programs - Associate a file type or protocol with a program

but you need to know what program should be used to open it.

Thank you all for the help. I've tried everything but none of them help.
Still can't open all types of attachments, pdf, excel, word. Tried to open it
on the page, tried saving it, none work, can't even save it. Not giving me an
error message either, so I really don't know what it is?

Have tried to save the attachment?
sve the attachment and open it sepasrately that work for me try it, see if
work for you.

If you can't save attachments, try this:
Tools, Options, Security, uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."

If no improvement, which antivirus are you running?

what exactly are you having problems with....are you getting any error
messages? how are you trying to open the attachments?
I get this message when I click ont the paper clip:

There was an error saving one or more of the attachments.
Please check your free disk space and try again.

I have plenty of free disk space.

I can right click on individual photes and save them, but I can't save them
as a group. I used to be able to , but not any more.

Problems in Windows Mail caused by interference from antivirus
programs are often reported incorrectly, sometimes as if they were
problems with free disk space. What if any antivirus programs do
you have, and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus
program on that computer, even a trial version?

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them are not very
compatible with Windows Mail.

Somehow-my little computer checked it's own 'box' to not allow attachments
in Outlook recently! I forgot to even LOOK here and thanks to you, saved
myself a lot of grief! Thank you!

You're welcome, Goldie.

I have McAfee antivirus, which is part of the services our cable company
provides. Should we use something different???

McAfee antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
Sometimes it takes a while before symptoms start showing up.
Always follow up a McAfee uninstall by using their debris removal tool:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=1033

If you decide to replace McAfee, of the available free antivirus programs,
the ones that are compatible with Windows Mail are:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
and
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

However, with either of those, during the install phase you must select
'custom' install, and then deselect the email scanning module so it won't install.

Instead of switching to a different antivirus, another option is to upgrade
to Windows Live Mail (WLM), which is more resistant to the adverse effects
of aggressive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Even with WLM, you must disable email scanning in the antivirus,
for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Completely off topic and hopefully permitted. Very unusual to see another
Serena, especially in the same field of work. I cannot tell how say hello to
you other than replying to your post.

So hello from another Serena at (e-mail address removed)

I guess I will change my signature name to Serena K.
