Unable to install updates for XP

Hi,

I am unable to install windows XP updates from the update
site. I was trying to download and install these when I
had a system crash. Now every time I try to install the
updates it automatically says that it has failed after
only about 5 to 10 seconds. It should take at least five
miunutes to download the 20MB or so that it is meant to.
I have already been advised to remove the catroot
directory from c:\windows\system32 and try it again. This
hasn't worked so I have replaced this directory.

You might try doing a search for CatRoot2, renaming it OldCatRoot2, and then
deleting CatRoot2. The file should rebuild itself. If everything is working
OK, you can then delete OldCatRoot2
