Unable to install SP2

I have tried seveal times to downlaod and install Windows XP SP 2 and on
every occassion it halts because it cannot find find file xmlp_.xdr. Can
anyone tell me what the problem is? I have had to do an new reinstall on my
machine and have had SP 2 on before. Thank you!!
 
I have never installed Sun Java, so I don't think so. I can search and find
the file xmlp_wp.xdr on the machine but the installation program will not
recognise it. Therefore will not go any further. Thanks!
