Hi Jim,
I recently downloaded the sasser patch on a safe computer to a cd, took it to my computer, and tried to install it. I had previously run Stinger and it removed the sasser worm. The "Inspecting system" progress box opens when I start, but nothing happens. Eventually, the box goes away, and a Setup Error comes on saying: "Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic Service is running on this computer."
I ran CMD and found that the cryptographic service is running. I also tried direct download to my computer with the same results.
Any thoughts?
- From Start > Run > msconfig disable third-party utilities, such as
Download Accelerator.
- Verify that the date and hour of the system is correct.
- from Control Panel > Internet Options, delete Temporary Internet
Files, cookies and History.
- From IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced options tab, verify
that you have unchecked the option to verify revocation of server
certificates.
- From IE > Tools > Internet Options, click in language and verify
that you have defined the language of your operating system.
- Delete the folder 'catroot2' which is in \Windows\System32
- Reboot the system and try to update from Windows Update.
