Unable to Insert Bitmap

When I try to insert a bitmap into a word document, an icon appears with the
name of the file under the icon. I am using Microsoft XP SP2 and Office 2003.
I attempted to insert a bitmap in Wordpad, I get the same results.

I uninstalled my Antivirus & firewall software, but no luck!

Any ideas on what could be the problem?

Uncheck the "Display as icon" box in the Insert->Object dialog.
