unable to get XP to save my desktop settings

every time i restart i lose my desktop theme. also unable to get XP to show a
log on at welcome screen. it just shows welcome then goes directly to desktop
which could be part of the problem.

nope did not work , i have xp pro home sp2. once i get to desktop i have to
log off then back on to get my desktop settings back. i olny get the welcome
screen at start up no log on screen. if i could get a log on screen so i
could pick myself all would be fixed and yes i am the admin.

ok i got the log on screen to come up at start up by creating a 2nd user but
still same problem. my desktop settings are not being saved or at least not
the first time i log on , after start up if i log off then back on they are
there.
