Unable to get Epson printer to work with XP

We downloaded the driver for our printer from the Epson
website, but cannot get XP to recognize it and get the
printer working. Did anyone else have this experience?

I was able to get my Samsung printer working, but XP doesn't recognize
it in the device manager. Had to install a Lexmark driver as well to
stop the "new hardware" messages (advice from the driverguide.com
website).

The printer does show up in control panel \printers. I've seen quite a
few messages here about XP and printers.
 
What model Epson is it??? I had trouble with an Epson 440,
downloaded the driver & installed it &when I rebooted, XP
decided to load its own drivers anyways...LOL. Did you
follow the driver installation instructions?? Usually, you
have to install the drivers first, then shut down & attach
the printer, then reboot.
