What version of Outlook do you have, and what sort of mail account(s)?

Do you have any anti-virus software that scans your email? If so, try
turning off the mail scanning feature (for some A/V software it may be
necessary to uninstall then reinstall without those options). This error
tends to be the result of anti-virus scans.

Jeff, I have outlook version 2003, and am using Norton Anti Virus, if I turn
off the email scanning will I be opening myself up to receiving a virus, or
is it just possible to turn off the outgoing scanning portion ???

All right, I turned off the outgoing mail scan in my anti virus program, now
get the message unable to connect to outgoing mail server(smtp). Error
ox80042109. The attachment that I am trying to send does have some pictures
in the attachment. Also I have outlook 2003 on a desk top computer, same
antivirus program, and I have no problem forwarding emails with attachments.
any suggestions.

No. My understanding is that Norton has a "real-time" or "on-access"
component that checks any file before Windows tries to run it and will
block running any file that has a virus. In that case, catching the virus
in the email message isn't necessary because it will be prevented from
executing.

Did you uninstall and then reinstall Norton? My understanding is that the
scanning component is not completely disabled unless that is done.
