Hi,

The XPe lost its read-only protection feature (EWF) on drive C after
replacing harddrive of the computer. Is there any way to switch it on again?
EWFMGR doesn't seem to find any protected volumes.

Thanks,
Mary

Was that RAM or disk based overlay?

If it was RAM and it is not working then with few registry changes you can
get back online.

But more likely if was disk based overlay.
In that case you will need to have enough space on your HDD after your XPe
partition.

And then you can search this NG for info how to modify registry and execute
FBA to create EWF partition.
But there are cases when this won't work.

Slobodan, it was RAM-based overlay. What are registry changes?

Thanks in advance,
Mary

Mary,
Go to www.xpefiles.com

And find ramewf.zip posted by me.

There you will find documentation, and component.
Read doc and use regedit to make manual changes.
There are few reg valuev that need to be modified and added.

Ask more if you need help with this.

Slobodan

Thank you very much Slobodan but it didn't help. The partition is still
unprotected.

Could you export and post reg files made from you XPe:
SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\EWF
SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_EWF

SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
UpperFilters

Are you trying to protect first or some other partition?

Regards,
Slobodan
