Unable to establish PPPoE Connection

I recently needed to re-instal XP on my machine, and
afterwards my DSL connection has been inaccessable. The
DSL Modem is functioning perfectly, and it is connecting
to the internet, however, I am not able to actually log
on, or set up a new connection in Network Connections.

When I get to the point in the New Connection Wizard where
I am supposed to select "Connect using a broadband
connection that requires a user name and password", this
option is grayed out and unavailable. The only option I am
allowed to choose is "Connect using a broadband connection
that is always on", which is the wrong choice and doesn't
help at all.

I've been on the phone 4 times now with my ISP, and they
have got to the point of telling me it is a registry
problem, outside of the scope of their support. I have no
idea what this means. This computer with this exact OS and
ISP has been working perfectly for a year and a half. I re-
installed the OS to correct unrelated problems, and now it
doesn't work.

Any insight? How can I get to the point that I am actually
allowed to select the above mentioned New Connection
option that I need?

Please be as detailed in answering as possible, as I
cannot do net research at home due to this problem.

Thanks!

Sorry but dont think I can help at the moment but I am working on it as I have a similar problem. I want to connect using a dial up connection but, like you, the option I want when trying to set up a connection through the wizard, is greyed out. I had an error message telling me that I needed to install the Dial-up networking. If I have any success I will let you know but I am pretty sure that it is to do with the way the installation was set up. Good luck

Ruth, I won't know until tomorrow if this is helpful, but
look at this Knowledge Base article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;320558&Product=winxp

It looks like it might address our problem.
