Unable to Edit document from Internet

Using a Windows XP computer with Office 97 installed, I find I am unable to
edit a downloaded document into Word or Works Word from the Internet without
an error message coming up after I have been working for about 20 minutes.

Message reads:-

"Sorry for the inconvenience" (and all that crap... ) "but this
application is closing down"

It then wants me to send the error message to Microsoft who of course does
nothing about it.

I have used the Program Compatibility Wizard to try to fix the problem with
no success.

Please help, the frustration is killing me!!!

Word doesn't give you any kind of message, such as in which dll or other file
the error is occurring? Is there any kind of action you're performing that
causes the crash? Do you know in which version of Word the document was
originally created?
