.... because my PC wasn't shipped with a Windows XP CD (and no, I haven't misplaced it. I have all the manuals, leaflets and other bits and pieces that came with my system, and they've all been in the same file since I bought the PC two years ago)

This wouldn't normally bother me (my old PC didn't come with a Win 95 CD either), but lately my system has developed a multitude of problems (random hard reboots when attempting to run 3D software, no matter how many times I reinstall the latest drivers; my DVD-ROM refuses to read anything, insisting that it's empty; occasional crashes when browsing the Internet, resulting in hard reboots). On the advice of a friend, I decided to reinstall XP and then install only the latest device drivers for my hardware. Unfortunately, I don't have the CD to do so

If it helps, I'm currently running a two year old eMachines PC with the following

Pentium 4 1.8Ghz processo
L4S5MG motherboar
256mb RAM (unsure which kind
Hercules Prophet Radeon 9600SE 3D car
Avance AC97 sound car
Windows XP with SP

Any suggestions on how to fix these problems, or better still, get a CD, would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

Check the system for an I386 folder, in there should be a winnt32.exe file.
Double-click it to start the repair installation. Use the "upgrade" option,
not the new installation option.

Did as you said, but when I ran WINNT32.exe I got an error message saying that

Hi,

Locate the netupg.inf file under \I386\winntupg, right-click it and choose
open, is there a reference in here to that file?
