I found a wonderful solution to my problem here in Google Groups.
However the post was nearly a year old and I couldn't rate the answer;
nor could I let the "solver" know how much he/she helped me. So, my
question, what do you do when you are forever indebted to someone you
don't even know who has probably saved you a very expensive tech call?

If you can find the original post, just reply to it and say 'thank you' -
it's always appreciated, I'm sure. It's great that you want to find this
person and express your gratitude!

Note that Google Groups isn't the best way to use these groups (although
it's often the best way to *search* them) - access to them is best
accomplished via a newsreader client, such as Forte Agent, Thunderbird, even
Outlook Express - the NNTP server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like. Much better than Google Groups or
the Microsoft CDO/web interface.

Cash is always nice, but then a simple thank you in a reply to the post is
good too.
